(See Acts 2:44–46; 4:31–35.) This is necessarily so, from the steps one must take to obtain this blessing. Further than this we cannot forget that one of the promises on this subject reads: “He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.” (Matt. 3:11.) When we notice that here fire seems to be contrasted with water in the earlier part of the verse, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the cleansing power of fire is partly in mind.
